Jo set the goal at the beginning of 2025 to earn £10,000 in stand alone nail trimming this year and achieved her goal at the beginning of December. An outstanding achievement which I am sure you will agree with. This goal was built off the back of 2024 where she achieved £8000 in nail trimming.
I am sure you will now be thinking to yourself “How?”
This achievement highlights the business skills that Jo learned and implemented through consistent coaching and support inside The Pet Groomer Business Programme.
But let’s give you a little bit of a back story. Back in 2023 I had a stand at Style To Rescue and Jo hunted me down to find out how we could help her and her business. She had been a mobile groomer for ten years, working six days a week, working hard and not seeing a great return for that hard work.
Jo became a member of The Pet Groomer Business Programme after our meeting and set about to start implementing changes within her business. These changes didn’t start straight away, we had to set the foundations, set the goals and work on some mindset gremlins that were hanging around.
Once we had those changes locked in, the work on the business began in earnest and the wins started coming in thick and fast. Price increases, structure changes, new bank accounts, changes in hours.
How does Jo’s £10k in nail trims highlight her new business skills?
Well firstly Jo wanted to increase her income without having to increase the amount of dogs groomed every day. When she came to us in 2023 all she did was haircuts. We find this with a lot of groomers, that everything is centred on grooms requiring a full clip and scissor cut.
Business skill number 1 “Curiosity”
Jo turned up every week to the coaching calls, armed with her note pad and questions. Being open minded and inquisitive she listened to the calls and questioned what she wanted to achieve. She was receptive to new ideas and curious as to how she could achieve what she wanted from her business.
Business skill number 2 “Listening”
Jo listened and selected what could work for her and her business. There is a lot of noise out there, our coaching calls are brimming with ideas and inspiration which can be a little overwhelming sometimes. But listening and learning how to cut through the noise is important.
Business skill number 3 “Limiting Beliefs”
Jo understood her limiting beliefs, identifying what they are, how they show up and how to push through them. You have to show your brain (and sometimes the doubters around you!) that your beliefs aren’t always correct and they can be changed.
Business skill number 4 “Testing”
Testing and adjusting are so important in business. Having listened to all the ideas, Jo decided what she wanted to implement within her business and took it out to market. Testing to see what people wanted.
Business skill number 5 “Problem Solving”
Jo had a busy work schedule already and included nail trimming within her grooming. To increase her income from nail trimming alone it meant that she needed to find lots of new pets. A problem that could cause many to go into months of procrastination. But often the answer is staring us in the face. In fact if you are reading this on Facebook it is literally staring at you right now! Jo identified how she could use her facebook presence, facebook page and facebook advertising to find these new clients. The ability to problem solve is a necessary skill that is essential within business.
Business skill number 6 “Resilience”
The idea was formed and the goals were set but Jo had to dig into her determination and resilience. I mentioned Facebook ads above, how many of you had a mindset wobble reading that? Firstly because you are going to have to spend money on advertising, your money mindset may have kicked in. Secondly, you are going to have to sit down and start dealing with technology, something that Jo had no ideas about either. But, she had set her goal so had to become resilient when it came to working out how to set up her advertising. Being open to the fact that nothing will be perfect is another skill within its own right.
Business skill number 7 “Consistency”
On the back of resilience you have to add consistency. When Jo was setting this nail trimming idea in motion, other members of the business programme were interested in it too. Facebook ads were set up, Canva templates designed and the posts were starting to go out on to the facebook pages and stories daily. BUT the difference between Jo and some of the other members was consistency. With any form of advertising it needs time to gain traction. For some programme members, having not seen a result from their efforts after one month, they cancelled their adverts. Posts started to fade and engagement quickly dropped off. Jo however dug in for the long haul and left her advert to run and carried on with the DAILY, yes DAILY facebook posts.
Business skill number 8 “Measuring”
Measure what matters. To help Jo’s mindset she started to keep track of how much she was making from the nail trims. This helped her to justify what she was spending on the facebook adverts and the effort of posting. It also motivated her to keep going as she saw the numbers grow month after month.
Business skill number 9 “Commitment”
Just because it’s working, don’t become complacent. I reckon that if you were running facebook ads and seeing the messages and calls coming in for the nail trimming, you would potentially stop the ads to save some money! Well this is where Jo knows better. The facebook advert is working hard and the return on investment (How much she makes vs how much she spends) is astronomical, so she knows not to stop the advert.
Yes, word is also spreading from client to client but again this complements the facebook advert, not replaces it. So the skill here is marketing, and commitment to it. Or you could say “if it aint broke dont fix it!”
I set out to write a quick facebook post about Jo’s amazing achievement but sitting down and examining it, the money is obviously fantastic. Who would say no to an extra £10k in their bank account? But when you look at the journey Jo has been on and the skills she has learnt along the way, I feel this is an incredible achievement. These skills are “life skills” and can be applied within her business time and time again. The confidence that I have watched grow within Jo is so incredible. The real test of this was when Jo and her partner made the decision to get him out of a job he hated and working on a passion he had instead. Jo used her skills to set up a new business with her partner buying, doing up and renting out serviced apartments.
I have purposely left you asking some questions here. I can hear them now. How much does she charge for nails and how much did she pay for facebook adverts? Well you have made it this far so I will answer these.
Nail trimming starts at £20 and then it’s an extra £10 per pet, per household. I don’t want to hear any of this “People wont pay that round here!” Jo has £10,000 worth of evidence that people will and do pay that for nail trimming.
The spend on facebook adverts is £30 a month. See what I mean by an incredible return on
investment?
IF you have made it this far then thank you for reading and I hope Jo’s journey has inspired you. If the £10,000 for nail trimming caught your attention and you have read all the way through this to here, then maybe the motivation, determination and resilience is there in you too. There is no reason why you couldn’t implement this in your business. I have highlighted the skills that you need above. Jo’s goal for 2026 is £12,000 in stand alone nail trimming. I have no doubt she will achieve this. Where will you set your goal?
